The Vegetannual.

"Take a minute to study this creation – an imaginary plant that bears over the course of one growing season a cornucopia of all the different vegetable products we can harvest.  We’ll call it a vegetannual ..."

Welcome to our corner of the locavore network. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (HarperCollins, 2007) is the story of a year in which our family deliberately fed ourselves on products grown close to home, and what we learned from the experience. One of the great surprises was the way this book connected us with a world of other people who are enthusiastically exploring their own local food communities.

Many readers have been curious to know how our project continued beyond the book’s closing paragraphs. Here’s a partial answer: the photo below shows one day’s harvest from our out-of-control 2010 garden. For further updates from each of the book’s authors, click on “What’s New.” Elsewhere on this site you’ll find an index, recipes, and many more resources for local-food devotees.
